TORCHES Project embraced gender equality through IWD radio programme

IWD 2023

ActionAid Zimbabwe (AAZ) under the Towards Resilient with Health, Equality and Safety for All (TORCHES) Project held a radio programme on International Women’s Day on the 7th of March 2023 with its partners Leonard Cheshire Disability Zimbabwe, Family Aids Caring Trust and FAWEZI.

The radio programme was aimed at discussing the communities that embrace gender equality. During the coverage, guests highlighted the plight of women in Zimbabwean communities in terms of sexual and gender-based violence, social and economic development. They also reiterated their call for gender inclusivity in decision-making at all levels.

AAZ TORCHES Project Manager, Betty Sithole said: “On the International Women’s Day, I’m calling for an end to abuses of women and girls in communities, and perpetrators of such acts should be brought to justice. Husbands should stop harassing, beating, or mistreating their wives at home because they are as important as men.”

TORCHES Project aims to prevent violence against women and girls and addresses power imbalances between men and women as the root cause of violence.
